JOB DESCRIPTION
The Division of Geological and Planetary Sciences at the California Institute of Technology invites applications for a tenure-track position in Geology, with expertise in fields including but not limited to paleoenvironments, weathering, tectonics, or properties and mechanics of earth and planetary materials. We seek individuals who will lead an innovative research program while complementing our existing strengths, and who are committed to teaching and mentorship of students and postdoctoral fellows. An initial appointment at the assistant professor level is contingent upon completion of a Ph.D. degree in a relevant field. Extraordinarily well-qualified candidates may also be considered at the tenured professor level.
Interested applicants should submit an electronic application that includes: (1) a brief cover letter, (2) a curriculum vitae (including publications), (3) three letters of recommendation, (4) a statement of current and proposed research (two pages), and (5) an education statement that addresses the applicant’s thoughts on classroom and laboratory instruction, mentorship of students and postdoctoral scholars, and ways to foster an inclusive environment for the development of scholars who come to Caltech with many different perspectives and experiences (up to two pages). Salaries for professorial faculty at Caltech fall in the range $125,000 to $400,000. Reviews of applications will begin on December 1, 2026, but applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
